Proper Preparation For Beagle Training

The Beagle temperament always comes into play when training begins. Beagles are not as ready for training as a Golden Retriever but, they are not as stubborn as some Terrier breeds. Training your Beagles can be a challenge. It’s best to properly prepare them before beginning any training session.
The best way to start training a Beagle is to begin young. As Beagles are born to be hunters, even Beagle puppies will want to roam. Your job is to keep them interested in you. But that’s often easier said than done.

Try keeping your Beagle’s attention with her favorite ball or some great smelling treats. Beagle training, however, should not be focused on feeding treats. The dog should obey you because you are the leader of her “pack” not because she gets fed every time she listens to your commands.
Another way to keep your Beagle’s attention during training is to keep the area free of distractions. Training a Beagle in your backyard may present a challenge in this aspect. Another option is to start training your Beagle in a small room or clean garage.
Proper training of Beagles also begins with you. Beagles are natural hunters and will wander, roam, and even run off if not kept under close supervision. With this tendency also comes frustration for the Beagle trainer. Always remember, you Beagle will not do everything you expect from the start. Have patience and you will be rewarded.
Training sessions with your Beagle should always start with free time. Allowing your dog to become familiar with the setting prior to training will help to avoid too many distractions. Beagle training should also begin with exercise. As your Beagle is exploring, encourage her to run around to release her penned up energy. This will increase concentration during the actual training.
Training your Beagle can be quite a challenge. Following these tips to prepare your Beagle will increase your chances for successful Beagle training.
